Prescribing policy
How we prescribe
Prescribing decisions come after an evaluation. This page says what to expect, so a visit holds no surprises.
After an evaluation
Prescribing decisions come after an evaluation. Your prescriber reviews your history and what you take now before deciding anything with you.
Controlled medications
We do not prescribe controlled substances, including stimulants and benzodiazepines, by video. A prescriber may consider one only after an in-person evaluation, as state and federal law allow.
Refills
Refills are handled at scheduled visits. Please ask before you run low, and not on the day it runs out. We do not refill a medication for someone we have not seen.
Changing or stopping
Please do not change or stop a medication on your own. Call us first, and your prescriber tells you what to do.
Labs and checks
Some medications need blood tests or other checks. Your prescriber tells you which, and why, before you start.
Other prescribers
We ask who else prescribes for you. With your written permission, we tell them about any change.
Questions
About prescribing
Do you prescribe controlled medication by video?
No. We do not start a controlled medication at a video visit. Our prescribers are licensed in Texas, and a prescriber may consider one only after an in-person evaluation.
Will I need labs?
Some medications need blood tests or other checks. Your prescriber tells you whether you need any before you start.
How soon can I be seen?
It depends on the prescriber's calendar. Tell us how soon you need to be seen when you write. This office is not an emergency service.
